Instead of pay increases workers threatened with pay cuts
July 22nd: Responding to today’s news that Bord na Mona has reported record profits in excess of €50 million – up a staggering 114 per cent on last year’s figures – Unite Regional Officer Tom Fitzgerald pointed out that the company’s success is not reflected in the pay packets of workers who, instead of pay increases, are being threatened with pay cuts of up to 15 per cent.
“The hard work and commitment of a highly skilled workforce have made Bord na Mona the successful company it is today..
“But Bord na Mona’s success is not reflected in the workers’ pay packets. Not only has the company failed to increase wages – they are now threatening to cut pay by up to 15 per cent while increasing Chief Executive Gabriel D’Arcy’s remuneration to €322,000”, Tom Fitzgerald pointed out.
“Rather than squeezing workers’ pay, Bord na Mona need to ensure that profitability is reflected in their wages”, Tom Fitzgerald concluded.
