Delivery vehicles backed up at Allied Bakeries site on Castlereagh Road as picketing workers stand strong

Susan Fitzgerald, Regional Coordinating Officer for Unite commended both her members and those of the Bakers’ union (BFAWU) who established a powerful picket line at the gates of Allied Bakeries’ Belfast production facility.

“Today’s strike action has demonstrated the strength of feeling of the workforce at Allied Bakeries and their determination to win a fair pay uplift. The workers – members of both Unite and the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers’ Union (BFAWU) are to be commended on their brave stand.

“Delivery vehicles are backed up on either side of the workers’ picket line – there can be no question of business as usual for this company until they meet our members’ pay demands.

“The striking workers have received huge levels of support from the public who have made clear where they stand in this dispute. Unfortunately management has failed to make an improved offer despite it being well within their abilities to do so. It’s long since time the bosses at Allied Bakeries saw sense and moved to end this entirely unnecessary and disruptive strike”, Ms Fitzgerald said.
