Ten junior soccer teams to compete in Friendship tournament at the Hammer Complex
Tournament part of Unite in the community’s efforts to build reconciliation at grassroots level
August 6th: Speaking ahead of the tournament, Unite Community Coordinator, Albert Hewitt, offered a particular welcome to Belfast City Council Lord Mayor Brian Kingston:
“Unite in the community are very actively involved in grassroots campaign work in working-class communities on both sides of the peace walls in Belfast. We recognise the need for actions to break down divisions between our communities.
“The Friendship football tournament held tomorrow (Sunday 7th August) will bring together teams from across all parts of the city to play together at the Hammer complex. We are hopeful that this may become an annual football event.
“We are very happy that the prizes for teams will be presented by the current Lord Mayor of Belfast, Brian Kingston.
“Youth teams competing will include Albert Foundry, Shankill United, Lisburn Distillery, Cliftonville, Glentoran, Shankill United Colts, Barn Youth, Ridgeway Rovers, East Belfast and Shankill Juniors”, Mr Hewitt concluded.
