Unite to engage with UPC to minimise impact of proposed restructuring programme

unite-white-out-of-redFebruary 19th: Responding today (Thursday 19 February) to UPC’s announcement of a restructuring programme which will involve redundancies, trade union Unite – which represents approximately 150 members in the company – said that it will be engaging with the company to ensure that all redundancies are voluntary and to secure the best possible terms for the workers concerned, while also seeking to maintain and improve the terms and conditions of the remaining workers.

Commenting, Unite Regional Officer Brendan Byrne said:

“Unite is obviously extremely disappointed at today’s announcement. Our priority now is to ensure that all redundancies are voluntary and that the workers concerned receive the best possible terms, while also securing the long-term future of UPC’s operations and maintaining and improving the terms and conditions of the remaining workers.

“We will be meeting our shop stewards next Tuesday morning, and will then be meeting with senior management”, Brendan Byrne said.
