Union official to meet management at earliest opportunity
Responding to today’s news (04 December 2013) that pharmaceuticals company Pfizer intends shedding around 150 jobs at its Newbridge facility in 2014, Unite – which represents around 50 craft workers at the plant – said that the news came as a blow not only to workers and their families, but also to the local community. Commenting, Unite official Willie Quigley said:
“Today’s announcement is both unwelcome and unexpected, and has come as a blow to workers, their families and community. The focus of Unite’s efforts will be on avoiding compulsory redundancies while ensuring the best possible terms for workers leaving the plant during the course of 2014.
“To this end, I will be meeting management at the earliest possible opportunity to evaluate the situation and chart a way forward on behalf of our members”, Mr Quigley said.
