Political debate set for Warrenpoint Town Hall on Thursday [18th May] from 7.30-9.30
May 15th: Speaking ahead of the hustings event, Unite Newry Industrial branch Vice-Chair Ronan Turley invited the public to attend and get the answers to the questions that matter most:
“Unite the union has organised election hustings events in a number of towns in previous elections. Our local branch thought we should organise one and invited all the candidates running in the upcoming parliamentary election to attend.
“So far we have confirmations from Margaret Ritchie (SDLP), Andrew McMurray (Alliance) and Chris Hassard (Sinn Fein). We are waiting to see if Diane Forsythe of the DUP will be able to attend. The UUP candidate, Harold McKee is unfortunately unable to participate as he will be away. The event will be chaired by Davy Thompson, Unite Regional Coordinating Officer.
The topics under discussion will be entirely determined by those who attend although we expect that the issues that come up will include the Negotiations to re-establish a functioning Executive, dealing with the challenges associated with Brexit, the threat to services at Daisy Hill Hospital, Education cuts and the needs for job creation.
“Unite is hosting this event to give local voters the opportunity to get answers to the questions that matter most. Everyone is welcome”, Mr Turley concluded.
