July 27th: Last week’s Unite seminar on precarious work – Strategies to End Precariousness: The Case for Decent Work – heard a number of speakers outline the extent of precarious work in Ireland and the impact on the workers concerned. Gerry Light of Mandate gave an overview of the Dunnes Stores workers struggle for banded hours and permanent contracts, while Daragh McCarthy of the Nevin Economic Research Institute outlined the impact of precarious work on our economy and society, as well as on the individual workers concerned.
